How to Truly Love a Cat-Lady

Truly loving someone involves accepting the person for all that she is. Learning the hobbies that she enjoys doing, watching movies that she likes, eating the dishes that she wants. And sometimes, even accepting members of the animal kingdom that she adores.

I love cats! I just adore them!

When I was young, I would take homeless kittens home and beg and negotiate with my mom to keep them. When I moved to Singapore, my heart was broken for being away from my cats. I couldn't get one here so I would just look for stray cats around my neighbourhood and play with them on my way home.  I've always toyed with the idea of smuggling one of my cats back to Singapore. LOL.  And I think one of them likes this idea so she would always sleep on my luggage whenever I come home. Oh how I long for days when I could spend a lazy afternoon sleeping with my cats!

A photo of an adorable cat, sleeping, yawning and doing all sort of ridiculously cute gestures is what you would see as my desktop wallpaper. I follow Maru and Lil Bub and Marmalady in Instagram and Facebook. (HINT. If you know them, you are a cat-lady like me.) I could spend hours watching funny videos of cats in Youtube. And I find playing with cats truly relaxing and even therapeutic.

This is my cat SamSam when he was just a few months old.

My sister is also a cat-lover. Before we got married, we both secretly prayed that our hubbies would eventually learn to accept that (weird) part of us. And God sure knows the inner desires of our hearts and gives them. I noticed that somehow because of our hubbies' love for us, as silly as we may seem to be sometimes, they try to understand us and love us in the way that a cat-lady wants to be loved.

If you are married to, engaged with, in a relationship with or planning to pursue a feline-loving woman,  here are some tips on how to love them.  My hubby, Dennis, does most of these gestures which makes me realize how he truly loves me!  I should say, he was my inspiration in writing this post.

So here you go:

Be extra thoughtful and bring her cats something nice when you come home from work or when you come over to visit. And they would surely reciprocate that love soon.

Accompany her when she needs to taker her babies to the Vet.
Your presence will surely comfort her.

Don't get upset when she brings home a homeless kitten.
Grab some milk and help her feed the hungry kitty instead.

Give in to her requests to play with her cats. At least occasionally.

Let her cats sit on your lap. That will surely show her how compassionate you are.

Welcome her furry friends when they want to snooze on your big comfy bed. They would surely love your soft pillows and warm blanket.

Keep a lint-remover handy to remove kitten fur off her clothes.
Specially on those LBDs.

Don't feel jealous when she hugs and kisses her cats more often than you.

Laugh and smile with her when she shows you a funny photo or video of Maru like this one.

Get used to seeing cats as her cellphone background rather than your photo. Don't worry, she still has your photo in her wallet.

Hold her bag and wait for her patiently when she stops by the side-walk
 to play with erm...a cat.

Don't refuse to hold her hands even though she just rubbed some stray cat's belly.

Proverbs 12:10 reminds us that "Good people are kind to their animals, but a mean person is cruel."  So if your wife or girlfriend is compassionate towards cats or other animals, it means that you have found a good woman. So continue to love her and appreciate that part of her.
